Dale Kelly Bankhead is the consultant to the Budget and Finance Committee, chaired by Councilmember Atkins. In that role, Dale manages the committee calendar and ensures that issues related to the City’s budget are reviewed by committee members in a timely manner. Dale also handles most other issues related to City finances in addition to serving as the liaison to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community.

Prior to accepting her current position, Bankhead was the statewide director of Equality for All, the campaign to defeat ballot measures to ban marriage equality for same sex couples and roll back California domestic partnership laws. From 1997 to January 2006, Bankhead was the public affairs director for the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties. Bankhead has also served in senior management and executive positions with a number of other community organizations focusing on education, workers’ rights, and the environment.

Bankhead is also an active community volunteer. She is the vice-chair of the San Diego LGBT Community Center and is the recent past co-chair of the San Diego Coalition for Reproductive Choice. She has also held positions on the Rancho de los Penasquitos Town Council and the San Diego League of Women Voters board of directors. Bankhead has held a number of elected positions within the Democratic Party.

A graduate of Wellesley College with a degree in English, Bankhead also attended the University of Miami School of Law for 2 years. She lives in North Park.
