| Kim is a native San Diegan, born in Golden Hill and raised in Rolando Park. After graduation from Helix High School, she went to Grossmont College before transferring to San Diego State University, where she earned a degree in Political Science. In her spare time, Kim enjoys reading and watching the Harry Potter series, spending time with family and friends, shopping and cheering on her favorite sports teams but not all in that order. When funds are sufficient, Kim also enjoys international travel, having already conquered London, Paris, Lucerne and Zurich (Switzerland), Florence, Rome, Pompeii, Pisa, Venice, Innsbruck (Austria), Munich and Heidelberg (Germany), Madrid, Seville, and Lisbon and Estoril (Portugal). Her most recent travels found her in her parents’ homeland of South Vietnam. She hopes to get many more stamps in her passport very soon.
Before coming to Council District 3, Kim worked as a game-night operations assistant for both the San Diego Gulls hockey team and the San Diego Flash soccer team (both of which have folded, which is why Kim is reluctant to work in sports ever again—the team may fold!). She also volunteered at Vista La Mesa Elementary school as a tutor for Kindergarten though fourth grade all throughout high school and the first half of college.
As an advocate of human rights, civil liberties and various children’s causes, Kim is a member of Amnesty, International, the ACLU and UNICEF.
Kim can be reached by email at KLNguyen@sandiego.gov.
