| Monica serves as Councilmember Atkins’ representative to Normal Heights Planning Committee, Greater North Park Community Planning Committee, North Park Community Association, North Park Redevelopment Project Area Committee, North Park Maintenance Assessment District, North Park Main Street and North Park Recreation Council. Her policy areas and responsibilities include San Diego Fire and Life Safety Services, the San Diego Police Department, Gang Commission, Bi-National, Chamber of Commerce and Community and Economic Development.

| She also handles media relations and is the liaison to the Latino community.

| Originally from the Los Angeles area, Monica is a graduate of San Diego State University with a bachelor's degree in political science. She has a background in social service, having worked with the Center for Community Solutions as Program Coordinator of Beach Pride Healthy Start Family Resource Center. She is also a member of the National Latina Business Womens Association.
